The World Methodist Council officially embraced the 'Feast of Creation in Christ'. The step took place at the governing Council meeting of the WMC, which met in San Salvador, El Salvador, in August 2026.
With overwhelming support from delegates from WMC's 80+ member denominations, the resolution stated the following:
1. The World Methodist Council acknowledges and welcomes the continuing ecumenical discernment and various adoptions for the recognition of the ‘Season of Creation’ and ‘Feast of Creation in Christ’; and supports its representation in the relevant ecumenical bodies.
2. The World Methodist Council re-affirms its statement made at Houston, 2016: “This Council commends the celebration of a ‘Time for Creation’ from 1st September to 4th October, first observed by the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and now welcomed by concerned Christians across the world.”
3. The World Methodist Council commends to its member churches to adopt the celebration of the ‘Feast of Creation in Christ’ on the Sunday following 1 September, as adapted in title and observance for local contexts.
4. Further, the World Methodist Council commends the development and sharing of liturgical resources written to reflect local context and culture, and to share resources from ecumenical sources, for both the ‘Season of Creation’ and the ‘Feast of Creation in Christ’.
The resolution was made in the context of broader Methodist commitment to WCC's Ecumenical Decade of Climate Justice Action.
